Wesham Memory Walk was established in 2015 to raise money and awareness of dementia for Alzheimer's Society. People of all ages from the communities of Kirkham and Wesham all walked the scenic 5.5km walk with their families and friends - the event was a huge success. Year on year, we want to build upon last year's success to continue to raise much needed money.
So many people are affected, either directly or indirectly, by this disease. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. There are over 40,000 people under 65 living with dementia in the UK whilst 70 per cent of people in care homes have dementia or severe memory problems. Money raised through Memory Walks, held all around the country, will fund more research and earlier diagnoses incuding raising awareness of early symptoms and educating people on how to prevent the onset of the illness.
Please join us this year where we will once again walk, step by step and pound by pound, towards a future free from dementia.
